Midnight Sun Summer Tour – 7 days Fully Guided

canoeing, Kluane National Park, autumn coloursSummer camp was never this exciting. We have put together a seven-day introductory trip for those that want to experience the excitement of the Yukon wilderness without a lengthy immersion into the raw backwoods of the north.

On arrival day you are treated to a familiarization tour of the City of Whitehorse, dubbed the “Wilderness City.” It is the Capital City of the Yukon  with a population of nearly 30,000 people.

In the late afternoon we  head  north on the Alaska and Klondike highways for approximately 40km to Fox Bay Retreat, our off-the-grid facility on the shore of legendary Lake Laberge, the renowned body of water  immortalized by the well-known northern poet Robert Service when he penned “The Cremation of Sam McGee” in the heady days of the Klondike Gold Rush.  During your stay you can choose to stay in an individual or shared cabins as well as a bedroom in the Fox Bay Lodge.  (double occupancy)

kayaking on Tagish LakeIn the next six days you will learn to get comfortable in your own canoe or kayak, learn all the basic rudiments of setting up a wilderness camp and receive some elementary do’s and don’ts in survival techniques in backwoods country. You l get the opportunity to practice your new  skills on an overnight canoe trip from downtown Whitehorse to Fox Bay Retreat on day 3 and 4.

On day 2 – June 21st – from a high knoll above the camp, we can watch the midnight sun dip briefly behind the mountain range on the east shore of Lake Laberge and celebrate the summer solstice with a comforting drink around a late night bonfire.

During your stay with us there is a Voyageur canoe trip and a motorized freighter canoe ride around the lake with plenty of opportunities to try your luck at fishing for the lake trout, northern pike and the arctic grayling.

On day 5 we  pack a picnic lunch and take a drive to visit the Yukon Wildlife Preserve for a first-hand encounter with Yukon’s wildlife . A visit to Takhini Hot Springs tops off the afternoon and we’re back in Fox Bay in time for dinner and the evening activities.

Your accommodation at Fox Bay Retreat is in individual or shared cabins as well as a number of bedrooms upstairs in our main Fox Bay Lodge.  Meals are served in the lodge dining room.
